ACT at work: helping you help your clients

Supervision service

Hello! Is this you?

You support people to feel, live or do more of the things that give them purpose or meaning. You might be a:

You might already be well-acquainted with ACT. Or you might have come across it, and feel like it’s a framework that will really benefit your practice and your clients (it will!).

You may be seeking monthly supervision, or ad-hoc sessions to help you get to grips with a particular challenge or skill. You may also be in a team looking for group supervision.

I’m so excited for all of that! ACT is an approach that works in any context, because it’s about working with our human-ness. So, whether your clients are dealing with trauma, addiction, injury, self-doubt or any of the other myriad components of human experience, bringing ACT to your work will help them cultivate self-compassion and take action to help them move forward.

What can you expect in supervision?

Here’s what I want for you:

  • to feel completely safe
  • to be honest about difficulties
  • to have space to practise your skills
  • to celebrate successes with clients
  • to receive the guidance and support you need

Each and every session starts with you and what you bring. It’s your time to reflect on recent work, challenges and breakthroughs. We might spend time in discussion, practising skills, sharing resources. Every supervision you have will help you bring more ACT awareness and practice into your work.

ACT isn’t like breathing: it’s not a reflex action. It’s a choice, and it doesn’t always feel easy or natural. That’s why having a space to be curious about your practice, to explore new approaches and to be honest about your own stories and struggles is so helpful.

With Dawn I have found a supervisor who lives by the values that she teaches. She holds her values of kindness and authenticity at the heart of what she does. She is a great role model for learning unashamed compassion for ourselves and others. She has a great knack for teaching you theory through our lived experiences and I highly value her work.

About me and
my supervision practice

I’ve been working as a psychologist since 2009, and ACT is the model I draw on most often. I have regular supervision, which helps me get so much clearer on my practice, how to help my clients, and also the direction I want to take my work. I wouldn’t be without it.

I have experience of helping people integrate ACT at an individual level, and also systemically. One of my passions is ‘ACTivating’ organisations and teams!

What I love about ACT is its applicability from the macro to the micro. In recent years I’ve spent a lot of time working with people to address inequalities at societal level: putting ACT into practice in understanding and dismantling patriarchal influences, for example. And I have also worked at the very personal, intimate end of the spectrum, supporting sex and relationship therapists. What unites all my supervisees is an open curiosity about their own practice, and a desire to support their clients to make the changes they want.

I draw on a range of supervision models and am very happy to discuss these with you when we chat.

Supervision FAQs

What happens if I want to explore supervision?

  1. Let’s have a chat! Book in for a free 20 minute consultation so you can decide if we’re a good fit.
  2. I will send you some paperwork to sign and return and then we will find a time to meet via Zoom. Supervision sessions are £120 for 60 mins, or whatever your own hourly rate is, if more than £120. Please contact me for group supervision costs.
  3. You’re in control – you’re not tied in for a specific number of sessions.

How do I know if ACT-based therapy or supervision is right for me?

I’m not being flippant when I say ACT is for everyone. It’s an approach that taps into what we care about, and works with rather than against our human wiring. That said, ACT requires some doing. It’s not just about understanding yourself, it’s about actually doing things differently. I’m here to provide a safe place to explore what needs to be done differently, and practice, but to get the most out of our time together you’ll need to take some committed action between sessions. If that feels really uncomfortable right now, it doesn’t necessarily mean we’re not a good fit: but we will be working on doing more of the uncomfortable things!

What happens if I’m interested in working with you?

First just send me a message, letting me know what you’re interested in (therapy, supervision, or a training session). I’ll get back to you, and we’ll arrange a time for a free 20 minute call. If together, we decide we’re a good fit, I’ll send you some paperwork to complete before our first session.

How much does supervision cost?

Supervision sessions are £120 for 60 mins, or whatever your own hourly rate is, if more than £120. Please contact me for group supervision costs. Invoices are sent at the end of the month and are payable by BACS within 7 days.

Do I need to commit to a minimum number of sessions?

No. You are in charge of how often we meet and how long we work together for. It’s helpful to come to supervision with some reflections and questions about how you would like to further your practice. Sometimes this work focuses on you as a therapist, sometimes it’s about learning or practising skills. You can choose the content to best support your practice.

What is your cancellation policy?

For therapy and supervision sessions, cancellation within 24 hours will be charged at the full rate.

For training sessions, two week’s notice is required, otherwise full charge will apply.

What do you want to move towards in your practice?

I’d love to help. Just book in a free 20 minute call to see if supervision with me is right for you.
